Dublin Marathon is fast approaching. Training has been done. Dublin accommodation statistics has been done.
We are still in the process of raising funds. Our collective effort, we have raised 2,200 euros and counting. All set for
Oct 27, 2008 - Dublin Marathon.
The Training
I started training 14 weeks ago. Running three to five days a week. Doing long runs on Saturdays starting from 6 miles to 18 miles. After 9 weeks, i experienced chestpains(costochondritis) so i was not able to continue training for the long runs of 20-22 miles. In order to maintain the fitness level, i did some cross training - swimming. All is well now and I am hoping to have a good run on Oct 27.

Approaching the Dublin Marathon Race
I'm back! My countdown has started.Nine days left before the big day. I have a mixed feeling about the race because I am still recovering from an injury. As an eager first timer for a long distance running, I followed the training schedule to the dot discounting the fact that you really have to listen to your body. For you people out there who are new to any physical activity sport, always allow your body to recover otherwise you will end up hurting yourself.
During the peak of my training, I felt chest pains after the run.It would occur sometimes in the morning or at night. I brushed it off. Continued running my usual mileage for the week until I felt the chest pains even during the run. The doctor said that I was suffering from Costochondritis. It is a condition often encountered by athletes caused by repetitive activity causing damage to the cartilege of the chest wall leading to inflammation. While still on medication, I continued to do short runs but it did not helped so I compeletely stop running and taking anti inflammatory with steriods. I went back training last week slowly. To my dismay, my left leg muscle(ITB) is experiencing some pain. I went in for a massage last Wednesday to loosen up the muscle and doing some stretches. As the marathon is approaching, there is no point of doing a lot of running.
I will do the race regardless of my condition. The thought that keeps me going are the people who supports me. I would like to express my gratitude to my friends here in Letterkenny. To brother Bimbo, who unceasingly support our effort. To the Dublin people whom I have never met yet but are willing to help us.To Claudette who is doing her own effort raising funds on her own. I, would like to say - Maraming Salamat at Mabuhay!
